Banharn meets PAD leaders

Reform Thailand coordinator Banharn Silpa-archa, also chairman of the Chart Thai Pattana party’s advisory board, met People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leaders Sonthi Limthongkul and Maj-Gen Chamlong Srimuang today in his bid to persuade them to take part in the government-sponsored reconciliation forum.

In the meeting which was televised live on ASTV channel for over an hour at Sonthi’s  Tha Phra-arthit residence, the PAD leader Sonthi voiced his strong opposition to the amnesty bill which he saw would merely benefit the ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

This merely reflected the insincerity of this government towards political reform, Sonthi said. He also admitted that politics has interfered in all aspects but would like it to spare the judiciary power.

Banharn earlier met former premier Anand Panyarachun who preferred to stay put until a clearer picture of the reform council is seen.

Banharn is scheduled to call on Senior Citizen Dr Prawase Wasi at his residence to exchange views on political reform. Earlier the senior citizen has rejected such offer reasoning that he was not yet prepared for it.
