Assistant village head injured in an ambush in Betong

An assistant village head was wounded by a gunshot in an ambush as he was driving on a road in Betong district of Yala Sunday morning.

Mr Bueraheng Ardae, the assistant village head of Ban Samroi Rai, Tambon Aiuerweng, Betong district, later said he was driving his pickup truck on his way to Ban Ai Laboo village from his wife’s house when unknown gunmen fired at his car.

One bullet hit the right side of his waist and later was taken to Betong hospital for treatment.

Reinforcements from the police, military and border patrol police were dispatched to the scene of the ambush to investigate.

Police are yet to determine whether the ambush was the work of southern militants or it was motivated by other causes.
