The Criminal Court Thursday (Dec 7) approved arrest warrants for five people allegedly involve with an arms cache found in Chachoengsao province late last month.
The five suspects wanted by the police are Lt-Gen Manas Paorik, Chaiwat Pholpo, Somjate Kongwattana, Chakarin Ruangsakvichit and former PM’s Office Minister Jakrapob Penkair.
After the court issued the arrest warrants, Lt-Gen Manas, the former deputy commander of the Third Army Region, turned himself in with the police at the Crime Suppression Division in late afternoon.
Pol Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul, the deputy national police chief, said Lt-Gen Manas would be released on a 200,000-baht bail after police finished questioning him as he voluntarily turned himself in.
Pol Gen Srivara added that the seized arms cache was linked to a series of bomb attacks three years ago and this year, including the grenade attack at the office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission in 2014 and the arms seizure at a company belonging to Ko Tee or Wutthipong Kotchathammakhun, member of the red shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship.
The arms cache was found by a villager in a pond in Bang Nam Priao district of Chachoengsao province on Nov 24. Search by authorities found a large number of arms and ammunition.
Former prime minister’s office minister Jakrapob on Dec 5 denied an involvement with the arms cache. Mr Jakrapob, who has been living in exile , said the accusation against him as completely baseless and falsehood.
