Arms cache found near Bangkok

An arms cache has been found in a canal edge in Bang Nam Priao district of Chachoengsao province. It was believed to be used by hardcore redshirt protesters against their political rivals during the political unrest in 2014.

Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul disclosed yesterday (Nov 29) that the cache of arms was found last week hidden at the edge of a canal at Village 15 in Tambon Don Chimplee of Bang Nam Priao district.

The cache includes 30 RDD hand grenades, 7 pipe bombs, a TNT stick, two 40-mm mortars, several hundreds of cartridges of different calibres, two AK47 assault rifles, and an electronic circuit switch.

He said it was possible that the arms cache belonged to redshirt hardcore activist “Ko Tee” or Wutthipong Kotchathammakun and intended on inciting unrest in Bangkok in 2014.

He said the police are investigating and finding the culprits for trial.
