Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn on Sunday (Nov 19) clinched victory in the CME Group Tour Championship in the United States and the win pushes her world ranking up to 5th.
In the last round of this year’s last Ladies Professional Golf Association (LGPA) tournament for a price money of 2.5 million US dollars (about 82.5 million baht) in Naples, Florida, Ariya birdied four of his last six holes for a 5-under 67 — and seized on her good fortune when Lexi Thompson missed the short putt — to win the CME Group Tour Championship and the first prize of 500,000 US dollars (about 16.5 million baht).
It is Ariya’s 2nd championship this season after a long slump, pushing up her world ranking from 9th to 5th.
Ariya won her first tournament of the year in June at the Manulife Classic in Canada.
In her interview after the victory, Ariya said: “I would like to say that I just love this year, not only because I clinched the championships or once became world’s No 1, which was followed by a slump, but also because I have learned a lot. I am glad with everything that happened to me.”
In the same tournament, Thailand’s Pornamong Phetlam captured the joint 16th and Moriya Jutanugarn joint 30th.
