Anti-graft body to be asked to probe DPM Prawit and police chief

The Thai Constitution Protection Association will on Monday ask the National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs General Prawit Wongsuwan and Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda, the national police chief, for their alleged negligence in allowing former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to escape out of the country.

The association’s secretary-general, Mr Srisuwan Janya, said that Ms Yingluck had been subjected to close monitoring by the police and security officials, but none of those in charge of security affairs knew about her escape.

Their conduct in allowing the ex-prime minister to flee abroad amounts to dereliction of duty and misuse of authority in accordance with anti-graft law, said Srisuwan, adding that he would go to the NAAC’s office on Monday to file a petition demanding a probe against Gen Prawit and Pol Gen Chakthip, both of whom are in charge of security affairs.
