Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has called on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to attend the rubber debate in Parliament today.
The call was made while the opposition leader addressed the Parliament yesterday on the problems of rubber farmers raised by the Democrats amid widespread protests in several parts of the country.
Abhisit said he would like to see coordination between the House speaker and the prime minister so that she would participate in today’s debate on this issue which will be submitted for debate as a fresh motion.
The opposition wanted to know how the Yingluck government solve this problem of declining rubber prices among other farm products which also face the same problem, as well as the high living cost which was still not debated.
House speaker Somsak Kiatsuranond promised the Democrat leader that he would formally ask the prime minister to attend today’s debate as called for by the opposition leader.
Government whip Amnuay Klangpa said the opposition MPs would be given time to debate the rubber price issue and would also coordinate with the government to answer the issues.
