Metropolitan and tourist police arrested 95 people and seized 82 motorcycles in a joint campaign to crack down on street racing in Bangkok on Friday night (Dec 22).
Over 200 police and soldiers joined the operation in the western districts of Bangkok under the jurisdiction of Metropolitan Police Division 7.
Metropolitan Police Division 7 commander Pol Maj Gen Boonyarit Rodma said a total of 95 motorcyclists and pillion riders were rounded up and 82 motorcycles seized.
Of the 95 street racers arrested, three tested positive for drugs, while one person was found to have 7 methamphetamine pills in possession.
He said those who are minors will be sent to the Patrol and Special Operations Centre for behavioural training on Dec 27.
If these minors are rearrested for the same offence, their parents will face criminal charge as well, he said.
Pol Maj Gen Boonyarit said the arrest follow police investigation and monitoring of four Facebook pages well-known among young street racers inviting them to street racing on several Bangkok streets last night.
He said the police were in the process of seeking warrant from the court to arrest owners of these Facebook pages for supporting youths to commit offences.
