A total of 1,107 individuals have been placed under probation by the court on December 28-29 after they were found guilty of drink driving, reckless driving, speeding and other offences.
Probation Department director-general Prasarn Mahaleetrakul disclosed on Saturday that of the 1,107 convicted offenders, 727 of them were drunk drivers, 43 were faulted for reckless driving, one for speeding and the rest for other minor traffic-related offences.
The top five provinces with the highest incidence of drink driving during the two days were Bangkok, 70 cases; Surin, 48 cases; Maha Sarakham, 45 cases; Nonthaburi, 36 cases; and Chachoengsao, 24 cases.
He said that those who were placed under probation must report to probation officials in their respective areas as appointed and must perform social work by taking care of patients from road accidents in hospitals within the period set by the court.
The court may change the sentence and impose punishment on the convicted offenders if they failed the probation conditions, he added.
