A total of 41 people have submitted their applications to be picked by a selection panel to be nominated as members of the Election Commission under a new organic law.
The period for taking the applications was between Oct 19 – Nov 10. As of 4.30pm on Nov 10 when the period for taking the applications ended, there were altogether 41 applicants.
Most of the applicants are former or active government officials.
The applicants include Lt Gen Peerapong Manakit and Takorn Tantasith, members of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC); Tawatchai Thaikhieo, deputy permanent secretary for justice; Pracha Terat, former deputy permanent secretary for interior; Peera Phetpanich, deputy president of the Federation of Thai Industry; and Varanchai Chokchana, a political activist.
The selection panel will hold a meeting on Nov 14 to consider whether there are enough qualified applicants for selection.
