Fifteen youths were recaptured while 20 others are still at large and being hunted by a combined force of corrections officials, police and naval personnel after they escaped from a remand home in Songkhla province Sunday afternoon (Jan 14).
The 35 jailbreakers attacked some corrections officials at the remand home which also serves as a training centre located on the Ratchadamnoen Nok Road in Tambon Bo Yang of Muang district and then scaled the wall to escape.
Corrections officials at the remand home later sought help from the local police and naval personnel from the Second Fleet base to launch a manhunt for the escapees. They managed to recapture 15 of them and are still looking for the rest in areas surrounding the remand home which are coastal communities.
A corrections official said they are expected to arrest the rest soon. He said that it was not known why the youths escaped from the remand home and a fact-finding team was set up to find out the motives. He added that security would be set up after the jailbreak.
