Although the flooding situation in five districts around the Songkhla Lake has eased and the water continued to recede, 21 schools which are located near the lake are still flooded and remained closed.
They are eight schools in Ranot district, four in Krasae Sin district, eight in Sathing Phra district, and one in Singha Nakhon district. They are under the jurisdiction of Songkhla’s primary education zone 1.
Some of the schools which have been reopened are still flooded. Classes have been arranged for them at nearby temples. Wat Thampradit School in Tambon Khu Khut of Sathing Phra district is one of them.
Teerapong Srikaew, director of the school, expected the classes at the temple will continue to be used for at least 20 days as the school is still about one metre under water.
The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported on Dec 11 that six southern provinces–Pattani, Songkhla, Phatthalung, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani – are still flooded, affecting 762,948 people in 44 districts.
