Over 1,000 Thais are now in Qatar

Over 1,000 Thai nationals are working in Qatar and they are in fine conditions, said Mr Waranont Pitiwan, director-general of Employment Services Department, on Wednesday.

However, he said that the Labour Ministry had already coordinated with the Foreign Ministry to look after the Thai workers to make sure that they are safe and fine.

According to the Labour Ministry, there are now 31,123 Thai nationals working in the Middle East and, of these, 1,188 are working in Qatar with most of them working in massage business followed by manual workers, crane truck drivers, chefs and foremen.

Many people in Qatar have started storing food and drinks for consumption for fear that there may be a shortage of food and drinks after Saudi Arabia has closed its borders with the landlocked Qatar and banned Qataris from entering Saudi Arabia.
